I recently took my 3-year old daughter and my mother to Disney in Orlando. We took out all the stops – dressing as a princess, getting the magic band, wearing the ears, riding the rides, eating the fun food, playing with the characters and oh, so much more.
The delights were bountiful.
In front of The Epcot Center there is the landmark sphere you see in photos and there are gorgeous, colorful gardens that enhance your senses. There is also The Lion King exhibit, crafted beautifully with plants and flowers. Yes, we saw Mustafa and Simba and the kingdom’s pageantry. So beautiful and fun.
And that is when this profound moment took place.
A photographer invited us to take a picture. Magic happened. My daughter jumped into my arms and squeezed me. It was more than a hug. I felt her warmth and her heart pressed to mine. We held onto each other and smiled out of pure joy and love. Everything around us disappeared. We were perfect – my baby and I. Nothing else mattered.
In that squeeze, I had everything. Time stood still.
This is what I want people to feel. My aim is to relish those memories of the magical moments and be present to creating more…and more.
But don’t forget, there will also be the moments that take you back – to your Grandmother’s porch swing, Mom’s cooking, singing together while doing yard work with Dad, or seeing a lovely rainbow when you were called to look to the sky. In your mind’s eye, you can still feel and see them – with gratitude, and simplicity and grace.
The moments are not what you do, but who you are when they happen.
